Region II, Westchester,
NY February 7, host Robert Chase presented a lecture-performance
(“Historical Organ Methods”) at the Church of the
Highlands, White Plains. He offered examples from the earliest
European methods to those of the 20th century, and performed examples
that can be used for service playing by the average organist.
The method books are the only source for many of these compositions.
Of special interest was the first American method by Thomas Loud,
and a second, more important, method book by Johann Zundel. A
general meeting and reception (prepared by Sub-dean Alice Avouris)
followed the program. – Ralph A. Burkhart
