Picture
Sept. 29, the chapter kicked off its year with a dinner meeting at the Church in the Highlands, White Plains (Bob Chase Host). Member Frank Miller prepared a feast, and Li Lin performed one of the traditional Chinese folk arts: Sichuan Changing Faces. Li Lin is an established artist who also can sing Peking Opera and do acrobatic dance. – Kevin Walsh

Oct. 20, Robert Chase offered a presentation on "Symbolism in Bach’s Music" at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pleasantville (Michael Brittenbach, host). His lively talk was illustrated by examples played by members Terence Flannigan and Lana Kollath. After the presentation, members had the opportunity to try out the church’s new Kegg pipe organ - Kevin Walsh

Paul Jacobs Recital

Nov. 17 the chapter and Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale (John King, host and music director) joined forces to present Grammy Award-winning organist Paul Jacobs in recital. The recital attracted a near-capacity crowd, with not only many AGO members (from the Westchester chapter and elsewhere), but also many church members and community residents who would not normally attend an organ recital. At the reception following, many nonorganists told how much they enjoyed the program and would like to attend similar events in the future. - Kevin Walsh

Westchester County, NY, Feb. 9,
the chapter met at the Reformed Church of Cortlandtown for a program titled “Every Time I Feel the Spirit.” Eight AGO members presented music, which was sung by choir members and guests from several churches. Selections were presented by Robert Chase ("Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child" arranged by Rolf Schweizer), Joyce Gardner ("Deep River" arr. J. Jefferson Cleveland), Mi-Won and Jeremy Goldsmith and members of the choir of the Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns (Donald Moore’s “I Love to Tell the Story”), Lana Kollath ( “Kum Ba Yah” arr. Adolphus Hallstork; and a two-part choral version of “This Little Light of Mine”), Ed Wallace (“There's a light A-comin'” by David Lantz, III), Frank Miller (gospel arrangements for organ, and “The closer I Get to Heaven” for choir, sung with gusto by the attendees!), Eric Kramer.(performing an exciting choral arrangement of his "Guide My Feet" at the piano), Alice Avouris (“Down Here, Lord, Waitin’ on You,” “You Hear the Lambs A’Cryin,” “Lord, I Know I Been Chained,” “Higher and Higher,” and a gospel arrangement of “Jesus Calls Us” by Joy Patterson). -- Alice Avouris
