Opening Recital - Rising Stars
Westchester County, NY, Sept. 23, a good crowd of organ devotees, coming from as far away as Fairfield Conn., were present at Mt. Kisco Presbyterian Church to hear two young rising stars in the organ world play works by Guilmant, Bach, Weaver, and Reger. Chris Yuejian Lee and Daniel Ficarri played on the 2008 III/53 Beckerath. Terry Flanagan, music director, hosted the event. Lee is the organ scholar at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church in Scarsdale. He regaled us with a piece by his teacher, John Weaver, that showed off the instrument’s great versatility and depth of sound. Ficarri is the organ scholar at The Church of St. Paul the Apostle, N.Y.C. He studied with Paul Jacobs at the Juillard School, and his Bach piece was played effortlessly and made the church resonate to great effect. Afterward all marveled at the workings of the organ and were treated by member Frank Miller to a repast that surpassed royalty! -- Karen Longwell

Pedals, Pipes & Pizza
Westchester County, NY, Oct 21, the chapter sponsored a Pedals, Pipes & Pizza event at White Plains Presbyterian Church. Host Ty Lundman demonstrated the church's Austin organ to the enthusiastic children and adults who attended. This was followed by a tour of the organ chambers that was enjoyed by the children and adults alike. Frank Miller brought several pipes to demonstrate their sounds and types and the students each had fun trying to make a sound of an eight-foot pipe.. Everyone had a chance to play a few notes at the organ (hands and feet) which was followed by eight large pizzas that were easily dispatched. - Craig Degener
Members' Recital
Westchester County, NY, Nov. 11, a member' recital was held at St. James the Less Epicsopal Church in Scarsdale on its new IV/65 Klais. Matthew Lewis hosted the event and various members brought food for the reception that followed. Recitalists Tamara Cashour, Edwin Wallace, Terence J. Flanagan, Jonathan Riss and Chris Yuejian Chen played selections by Joe Utterback, Edwin Wallace, Pierre Cochereau, Rheinberger, and Mendelssohn. The excitement of the evening happened during Jonathan Riss's selection when the fire alarm sounded. After fire fighters inspected the church and allowed us back in while they tried to turn off the alarm, we had part of our reception. Flanagan was presented with the past dean pin from the current dean, Craig Degener. After the alarm ceased, we returned to the sanctuary to hear the conclusion of the recital. Part two of the reception followed. -- Virginia Bender

Twelfth Night
Westchester County, NY, Jan 6:: a head count of about 30 revelers shows that the chapter's Twelfth Night party is a popular event on our calendar. There was the feeling of jubilant relief as everyone told their tales of triumph and slight missfires that accompany the holidays. We all learned and grew from them. The Homefield House in Yonkers was a pleasant setting for our fete; with plenty of open space for conversation. Frank Miller not only procured the space, but also arranged for a sumptuous catered dinner. A music swap table was set up for members to place their unused music and possibly pick up another dusty treasure. Alla Borzova and Alex Dmitriev graciously gave out free copies of their organ pieces. To top off the evening, Dr. Robert Chase was honored with an AGO sweatshirt that he would wear on his many trips to the gym. Ed Wallace was celebrating his 70th birthday and he was serenaded with the appropriate ballad. - Karen Longwell
